I partially agree with your statement. Without controlling project execution properly, it will be very difficult to reach Cost, Schedule, Scope, Quality and performance targets. Achieving target end-date successfully is not only the criteria for project's success. I feel achieving quality targets in customer's perspective is very important for project's success. I mean project's output should be fit-for-use by customer/user. So I feel, PM can enjoy project's success only after product being used/enjoyed by user community.

disagree. Project start is important, doing it well may set a clear direction on where you are heading. However, if you do not make sure that you stay on track after the start, you're likely to be in trouble as well.

The start and end of a project are important..... ,thats correct, but it is the part in the middle, thats project management. Manage it or there will be no end

If it is only a start and end and nothing in the middle, then it is not a project. To drive from New York to Houston in a month that has a start and end, but is that all you need to know to get there. What if the car breaks down? How much gas will you use? What route will you take? And so-on and so-on. Now it is a project

I dont agree :) What i believe in is that every stage of the project is vital and should be given the importance it deserves.

When I read that -The start and end of a project are important..- it reminded me of all those projects where 'someone else' was always calling the shots. What matters is not the 'project' but that the goal is reached. If a 'project' and it's deadlines, team compositions or budget needs to be reworked numerous times, so be it. The only thing that matters in the end is if the goal was met. In development projects it's crucial to view it more as a sporting game, you adapt, overcome with wit and skill and win.

Project is like a Sandwich...top bread & bottom bread has got to be important but untill & unless...thing which comes between these two is not taken care in the best way then the sandwich is of no use...& is simply thrown away...exactly...start & end of the project requires more hard work but the middle part needs more dedication so that the good start meets a beautiful end.
